DIY Tray Makeover for $5

Spring has sprung and I have caught spring fever with this perfect little DIY project!

I really like those fancy trays that are popping up everywhere.  I see them at Target, Kohl's and other major retailers and department stores.  They come in all shapes, sizes and patterns.  My favorite has to be this one from Target.  It's so simple and I'm a sucker for chevron however, I would like it to be more colorful and less pricy.

My husband and I got this tray from one of our family members a few weeks ago.  It was one of those gift items that come with jams and fancy pastries (but those are all gone now) and I thought this was a great opportunity to finally have the tray of my dreams.

The tray was in great shape!  It was painted white and you could even see the brushstrokes.  I liked it because it was nice and bright and perfect for what I had in mind.  I already had some turquoise chevron shelf liner so I just measured it, cut and pasted it to the inside of the tray!  Easy peasy!  Here is the after....

Doesn't she look lovely?  I was extremely happy with how this little project turned out and even happier that it only cost me $5, the price of the shelf liner.  I was able to snag it on sale at Marshalls a few years back so I think I hit the jackpot.  And as you know the tray was free.

It's already getting lots of use housing my work/planning essentials.  I can carry them anywhere in the room without making several trips or having my hands full.  I've even used this to carry my daughter's little socks when doing laundry.  Yeah, I love it that much I'm looking for any excuse to use it. =)

And my daughter loves it too.  She uses it sometimes for her Littlest Pet Shop and My Little Pony toys.  I'm ok with this because she can sit next to me on the couch to play and I don't have to worry about picking up a fallen toy every 2 minutes.  They all stay nicely inside the tray.

Tray - Free (gift)
Shelf Liner - $5
Total Project - $5!

You can also purchase the shelf liner from my Amazon Store here! (Affiliated link

What do you think of this project?  Are you in the spring mood too?
