30 Day Neat & Tidy Challenge: Day 8 - File Cabinet / Paperwork
It's day eight of the 30 Day Neat & Tidy Challenge, but before we begin I just want to say how awesome you all are doing! I can't believe how much you all have done already! Seeing your projects so far is motivational.
Today's challenge is the File Cabinet and Paperwork. You can't fix one without the other, right?
Here's what you need to do for this task.
-Gather all your paperwork you have decided to keep.
-Start making piles for each different kind of paperwork and then make categories. These categories will be the names you use to file everything away.
-Once you have all your categories figured out, you can now label your file folders. (This is where your labeler comes in handy.) You could make general category fonts bigger than subcategory fonts. You could also color code or alphabetize your files. Find the system that makes the most sense to you.
-Using washi tape can also help with color coding! Plus, it's really fun to use.
-Binders and regular folders also come in handy to help file your paperwork right into the file cabinet. Right now I have my daughters insurance in a binder because it changes pretty frequently, so I can just take those files out and replace them with the new information. It also makes it really easy to carry around if I need to take it somewhere.
-To keep paperwork from getting out of control, set up a one touch system where you only tough each piece of mail once and put it directly where it belongs. You can file the paperwork that is ready to be filed, have a basket for items that need to be paid and then have a space for items that need to be addressed (such as rsvp, call back or anything else). Trash should be put in the trash right away or shredded.
So who is ready to tackle their file cabinet today?
