30 Day Neat & Tidy Challenge: Day 20 - Fridge

Welcome to Day 20 of this 30 Day Neat & Tidy Challenge!  Can you believe we only need 10 more tasks to complete this challenge?!  Today we're tackling the Fridge.

Here are all the steps to take to complete this challenge.

-Take everything out one shelf at a time, making sure to throw anything that is expired or old leftovers.

-After everything is out, clean the fridge starting at the top to the bottom (including the door shelves).

-Re-organize your fridge and make zones for items to go in.  You can use baskets, bins, fridge organizers and food storage containers to do this.

-Keep healthy items or mostly used items in the front and bulk items in the back.

-Milk should be stored on the top shelf where it is cooler.  We store ours towards the back of the fridge in order to keep it cool so it won't spoil as fast.  Remember you can still use milk well after it's expression date.  Just use the smell test.

-Never store milk or eggs on the door since this is the warmest part of the fridge.  Use this spot for condiments, soda cans, juices and waters for quick access.

-Prepare fruits and veggies you eat or cook with often so you can just grab them when you need them.

-Leftovers should be stored on the top and middle shelf since these are cold shelves and at eye level.

-After you have all your food organized it's time to go shopping! You can now see all the items in plain view and can make a list of what you need to stock up the fridge.

-Follow these same steps for the freezer.  Keep like meets together and get rid of packaging since they usually use wastes space.  Instead use bins and freezer bags to keep like items together.  (Such as waffles in plastic bags instead of a box.)

-Use labels when you can.  They come in handy for marking when leftovers were packaged or when something was purchased.

I hope these little tips help you get your fridge organized!

    1. I know Tori! I found cookie dough in the back on my freezer from 2012! Maybe I would have kept it and made them if it was frozen....maybe, but for sure not in the fridge. We tossed it.

  3. Awesome tips here! Putting labels on things in the freezer (with what the food item is and when I made it) has made such a difference for me - way less items going to waste.

  6. I should really chop/prep my fruits (grapes mainly) when I get them home, because it's a bugger to wash them anytime you want to get a quick snack lol!

Never realized milk should be on the top shelf! That makes sense...

    1. It definitely is! There's a huge difference from washing the one time than washing them like 20 time whenever someone wants a snack! It's saved me tones of time!

  10. Since I was determined to live off our pantry and leftovers for a while to cut down on the grocery bill, our fridge is nice and empty - a perfect time to clean! :)
