30 Day Neat & Tidy Challenge: Day 17 - Laundry Room

We are 17 days into this 30 Day Neat & Tidy Challenge!  Wow, can you believe we've made it this far?  Today is Laundry day, because we're tackling the laundry room. ;)

I have to admit that this one has been on my to-do list for a long time and I have never tackled it!  Hopefully together we can help each other out to get this project done!  So instead of telling you what you need to do for this project, since I seriously have no idea, I'm going to list my plan for this project below.

-Take everything off the shelves and out of the laundry room so I can vacuum it top to bottom.  Even behind the washer and dryer.

-Clean the vent out of the dryer with a vacuum hose.  They sell special ones just for doing this.

-Attempt to clean my washer using bleach and white vinegar through the cycle as well as clean the outside and small compartments for detergents and bleach.

-Try to figure out an organizing system for dirty clothes.

-Keep hangers here to hang up delicate clothes that need drying.

-Add baskets on shelves for bulk items and cleaning supplies.

-Throw any trash or expired items away.

-Finish the last of the laundry in my newly organized laundry room!

So that's my plan today.  If you have already done this task and have any more advice for us, please share in the comments below.  I'd love to hear it!

  1. Thankfully, my laundry room is clean and tidy! That is one room that can easily become a disaster zone, though. Great tips!

    1. That sounds wonderful! Our laundry room is too small to do that, but it is a great idea!

  3. Maybe this will help, I organize our dirty clothes with two bins in the laundry room. One for Warm (Whites Thrown in to be sorted later) and One For Cold. That way I don't have to collect dirty laundry its already in the laundry room and sorted when I am ready to do laundry! Hope that helps!

  5. I had my laundry room organized and decorated but then we moved. We now have our laundry area in the cold garage and clothes get thrown everywhere. Ugh.

    1. Maybe instead of having the laundry in the garage you can have it somewhere inside where it will be easy for everyone to sort it. Even in a closet or next to the door to the garage. I hope this helps a little. =)

  6. We just stuck a cat in our laundry room. Either that will force us to keep it cleaner or make it much worse! Ruh roh...

    1. A cat sounds fun! Wish I could have one, but we can't at the moment. I'm sure it will stay clean. =)

  7. I recently organized my laundry room, although it is not yet completely done. The cats' litter box is also there so I sometimes wish the space we had was 2x the current size. It would make things a lot easier. :) Thanks for your tips!

    1. I have a small laundry room too, so I hear you on the extra 2x space!

  8. I don't have a laundry room so much as I have a basement with a washer and dryer :). But great list -- especially cleaning out the hose -- that's the kind of thing you don't think of.

  9. I wish my laundry room was bigger - feel like it'd be easier to keep it organized! As it is, thanks for the tips!!

    1. Me too Debi! Mine is so tiny, but we have lots of shelf storage on the walls. It looks nothing like how I want it to but it's finally organized. =)
