30 Day Neat & Tidy Challenge: Day 2 - Nightstand

It's day two of our 30 Day Neat & Tidy Challenge!  Today we are tackling the Nightstand.

This is an important pice of furniture because it holds all the items we use before we go to sleep and when we wake up.  Often times we turn it into a junk drawer (I've been guilty of this!) but it's important to keep it simple and organized so we can use it to our advantage.

Here's what you need to do to organize your  Nightstand:

-Take everything out of the drawers and off the top.

-Clean and place shelf liner in drawers if needed.  This will make it easier to wipe down in the future.

-Throw out any trash and relocate items that do not belong.

-Neatly put the remaining items back in using boxes or trays to separate them.  This will help each item have it's own "home" so you will never lose that item again.

-Suggested items to store in nightstand - Medical/medicines, hand cream, Chapstick, hair tie, diary/journal, flashlight, pen/pencil, remotes and tissues.

-Limit your items you put on top to just a few items such as a lamp, alarm clock and maybe a book.  You can even place a small tray or bowl to put things like glasses, wedding rings and hair ties so it can be in one place.

-Under Nightstand - Use this space wisely.  Place a basket to store extra blankets, magazines or water bottles to have handy at all times and out of sight.  (I actually use mine to store my shoes.)

*Other tips:  Use shoe boxes or the lids and cover them with shelf liner to make cheap storage for your nightstand.

Step back and look at the difference your cleaning and organizing has made already!

  1. Looks great! I've been able to clear off the top while my son napped today but will have to work on inside the dreamers during his second one :)

  2. Great tips! I like the shoe idea. I'm about to convert our dining room into a bedroom for my son. It will be the perfect space but it doesn't have any closets. I'm going to have to use some of your ideas to make it work!

    1. Thanks Natasha! We don't have any closets either because we live in our Family Room. Long story, but I hope you stop by tomorrow. Closets is actually tomorrow's task!

  3. And that why my nightstand is a little table without any drawers : it motivates me to keep the stuff to the minimum: lamp, books and our wedding photo :) but these are great tips !
