Neat & Tidy Command Center

I am so excited about the project I have for you today!  It's something I've been dreaming of for a long while now, but never thought I could actually have!  Say hello to our new Command Center!

This is the place where we write our appointments for the week, keep all our daily used items stored and leave those shoes we use daily.  It's not fully complete yet, but It's come a long way and I thought I'd share with you the system we have in place so far.  But first, let me start off with a little back-story.

Those of you who have been reading for a while know that we live upstairs in my parents house.  Not only this, but we do not have our own bedroom (our daughter took over that.)  We actually live in the living room upstairs that is sort of like a loft.  It works for us, but is a little tight given the fact that it doubles as our living room, triples as our office and quadruples as our closet!  Yup!  But thankfully we have made it work so far.

Why am I telling you all of this?  Because we live upstairs so we don't really have an entryway into our "house" and I never thought I could actually have a command center!  Thankfully I started opening my eyes and I realized that a command center doesn't need to be next to the front door, just the entrance of your living quarters.  Hopefully this can inspire some of you who might have a similar living situation as we do.  Now that I've said that, let's get on with this post!

Let's begin at the top....those pictures!

They're really not part of our command center, but do add focal art as you look up the stairs.  My wonderful husband hung them up for me, and let me say it was a great triumph considering I've had these pictures for 6 years and we've only hung them up last year!  With that being said, I was not taking them down and decided to build my command center around them.

I hung our family calendar below them to keep track of appointments and other important dates.  I love the gold dots and used washi tape and post-it notes to make important events stand out.

Here is the more exiting part, my actual command center!  Doesn't it get your heart pumping with all the organization and beautiful bright colors?!

For the top of the command center I decided to keep it simple.  The pink box to the right holds all my junk mail that needs to be shredded.  I probably shred my mail every month or so, but this system is great for keeping everything in one place.

Remember these cute little owls from my Office post?  I had to move them to a more focal space.

I corralled all my calendar essentials together in a basket trey.  I use washi tape, post-it notes in fun bright colors, and colored pens.  These items really help keep our schedule organized, and who doesn't love using washi tape? (If you follow me on Instagram, then you got a sneak peek a few days ago of this picture.)

I love this basket!  I got it for a great price at a garage sale and it really makes everything in it look that much prettier!

I went with some fun bright colors to hold all our items we need when we go out the door.

This is where we put our wallets, scarves & mittens (when it gets colder), and anything else we might need to grab.

The middle row buckets hold office type supplies.  You've already seen a sneak peek in this post here where I show you how I organized my small office supplies.   Here are the rest of the organized supplies.

The first box is the "Mail Box".  It holds all the mail type items you would need to send a package like Thank You cards, tape, labels and soon to be stamps and mailer envelopes.

The next one holds extra items like an extra stapler, my label maker tape and some door proofing knobs.

Lastly, the famous Small Office Supplies picture.  I covered all the front of the boxes with shelf liner to give some color and hid what's inside.

On the very bottom are our mostly used shoes.  I think this might be my favorite pair of shoes that my little girl has ever owned!

And that's our Neat & Tidy Command Center!  So far it's been very functional.  I'm still working on the pin board on the wall to the left so hopefully I can figure it out soon.  If not, then I might end up taking it down and putting up more artwork.  I'll keep you update on that though.

What's your favorite thing about this space?

  3. I love the way it turned out! I need something like this at our house but haven't taken the time, mostly because i have a toddler who rips everything off any shelf and destroys it. It's a good thing he's cute.

    1. Thanks Trish! I remember those toddler years! You could even implement something like this on a smaller scale high up on the wall or high shelf.

  6. I like the bucket for mittens, sunglasses, and other items like that. Winter time always makes my house a mess! I may have to incorporate something like this somehow. Way to make it work for you :)

    1. The buckets have really been working out great! I even use my little one's pink bucket to hold her clothes for school so we can change her really quick in the morning. And I haven't lost my sunglasses in a few months! haha

  8. I love how you used the shelving and buckets/bins to keep everything organized! We are currently living with my parents while we search for a new house...so this is something I will have to recreate in our bedroom to keep us more organized. Right now everything is just thrown in our closet, ha.
